CASE STUDY

Brooklyn Museum Mobile Collection

Jun 1

bk_casestudy1 This application was the world's first mobile application for browsing a museum's collection. Built using the museum's groundbreaking Open Collection API, we provided proof of concept that a museum's open collection could be enjoyable regardless of user's location. Version 1.0 was launched to much fanfare in a barebones form in April 2009 (you can read the museum's interview with our CTO), and evolved over the summer based on user feedback. The application now allows the user to access visiting information, search for specific objects, and take a randomized stroll through the collection. In August 2009, the application was released as an open-source project, jointly administrated by the Brooklyn Museum and Iconoclash Media. We consider it an honor and a privilege to be participants in Brooklyn Museum's exciting open-API efforts.
